About the Presenter:
Emma Melder - Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria
Emma completed Bachelors of Forestry and Science at the University of Melbourne and worked in research for several years. She then retrained as a primary school teacher, completing a GradDip of Primary Education at Monash University. Following ten years of primary school teaching at a government school, she decided to follow her passion for teaching young people about the natural world by finding employment at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Cranbourne as a Learning Facilitator. In this role, she works with students from kindergarten to Year 12, helping them build their understanding of human impacts on various Australian environments, how the Gardens manage these impacts and changes that occur in landscapes due to seasons and natural events, such as bushfires. She has developed a secondary Geography fieldwork program at RBG Cranbourne and looks forward to working further on programs that support teachers from across year levels to address the geography curriculum through hands-on learning experiences.
