AGTA Conference: Ignite, Shine, ACT!
Canberra will host AGTA 2026: Ignite, Shine, ACT from 30 September to 2 October 2026 at the iconic Shine Dome in Acton. A fitting location for a national geography conference, Canberra is a city shaped by planning, landscape and civic identity, while the Shine Dome remains one of the capital’s most distinctive landmarks and a nationally significant heritage building.
AGTA 2026 comes at an important time for geography education. The conference will bring together teachers, curriculum leaders, researchers and partners for three days of professional learning, collegial connection and practical ideas that can be taken back to classrooms and faculties across the country.
To help delegates navigate the program, sessions have been grouped around the conference themes of Ignite, Shine and ACT. Ignite focuses on big ideas and emerging directions, Shine highlights strong teaching and professional practice, and ACT brings attention to place, fieldwork and the local Canberra context. These themes reflect the balance that makes AGTA conferences so valuable: inspiration, practical application and professional exchange.
Delegates can expect invited perspectives, practitioner-led sessions and opportunities to strengthen subject identity while exploring ideas that connect directly with classroom learning.
